A painting I did in 1997 of a victorian spacecruiser. (as far as i know, it predates steampunk) I was inspired by the novel of War of the worlds.

Neat design. Reminds me of the Aran from the game X3 Reuinion ([link]).

The Gentleman in the smaller rocketship looks particularly dapper. ;)

Steampunk has been around a lot longer than 1997. Its big entrance was with William Gibson & Bruce Sterling's novel The Difference Engine in 1990, but many of the associated tropes have been around much longer (i.e. H.G. Wells' The Time Machine).

Hey, Thanks. It is quite similar in shape to that ship in your link.

The dapper gent I really enjoyed painting, I may paint a similar full picture of that and variants, ie balloonists etc..

Thanks for info on steampunk, I never knew that. Firsy I heard of them was about 3 years ago ish when I saw some Star Wars figures made by them. I was definately inspired by H.G.Wells time machine! Love it.

I know the figures you're talking about. The stormtroopers were particularly excellent. ;)

ps, the name of this ship is HRS HEPHAESTUS. I named it after the Greek god who was the son of Zeus and Hera, He was the god of technology, blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metals, metallurgy, fire and volcanoes. Just found out that Hephaestus Roman god equivellent was called Vulcan. How appropriat.
